New novel explores fairy tales, how to make grilled cheese and existence of true love
A Scottish Ferry Tale by Nancy Volkers tells the story of a young woman's journey of self-discovery in Scotland and beyond

FAIRFAX, Vt. (MMD Newswire) February 10, 2010 -- A Scottish Ferry Tale, a novel by Nancy Volkers, depicts an unlikely romance that blossoms on the windswept coast of Scotland.

Cassie Wrentham has never believed in fairy tales. She thinks Snow White's dad is a slacker and Sleeping Beauty's parents are overprotective. Cassie prefers for everything to make sense. So when the love of her life unexpectedly dumps her, the ambitious 21-year-old finds herself at a loss. She escapes to a remote Scottish island, narrowing her scope to sheep, windswept beaches and fighting for space in her room with the guesthouse cat. But her vacation plans are soon complicated by Ralph Macnair, a Scottish stage actor on holiday who falls for her at first sight. Now Cassie must decide if she believes in true love and if it is worth the risk.

"This is a love story for intelligent women who have a sense of humor and the ability to look beyond the surface of things," Volkers says. "It's the story of one woman's quest to figure out what love is all about."

In the midst of Cassie's fateful journey she also has to deal with haggis, strange-looking cows, a very large dog, the wisdom of her best friend Leslie, and a niece who asks question after question about how the world works. Set largely in Scotland, the book seeks to capture the rugged beauty of the Scottish coast as a backdrop to the story.

A Scottish Ferry Tale is available for sale online at Amazon.com and through other channels.
