New book argues that science and philosophy can confirm Christianity

Things Are Not as They Seem by Dr. James F. Ivey seeks to demonstrate rational basis for belief in God as revealed in scripture

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (MMD Newswire) February 10, 2010 -- Things Are Not as They Seem, a study in Christian apologetics by Dr. James F. Ivey, argues that science, philosophy, history and modern physics support the truth of what is found in the Bible.

The first in a planned four-part series, the book moves to demonstrate how the theory of relativity, quantum physics and cosmology-particularly when infused with Platonic philosophy and bolstered by history-support the principles of Christianity. Correlating theology with science, Ivey contends that Christianity is the answer to life's most profound questions and that the concept of God as revealed in the Bible aligns with sound empirical and philosophical thought.

In an effort to connect the foundational principles of science and philosophy with Christian belief, the book quotes and cites many historical figures including Plato, Socrates, Augustine of Hippo, Thomas Aquinas, Albert Einstein and C.S. Lewis. It notes historical facts that Ivey believes provide adequate reason for people to believe that both the New and the Old Testaments are the genuine Word of God.

According to Ivey, any explanation of the origin and workings of the universe that does not include the divine is probably less rational than those that include theological considerations. He heartily believes that, with the introduction of the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, faith and reason were reunited, as were science and God.

Dr. James F. Ivey is a writer and practicing physician. A graduate of University of Florida, he earned his medical degree from Emory University and later served as a flight medical officer in the United States Air Force.
