I Know You by Heart by Linda Spear explores how one family attempts to make sense of the secrets left behind after a mother's death

The story takes place in a small village on the Hudson River, when a small family is forced to deal with the death of its matriarch and the formalities of dealing with her loss.

Spear attempts to demonstrate through each character that when a person faces unfortunate circumstances that are beyond their control, they eventually learn that they are not alone. And while death is something everyone deals with at some point in time, love of family will always prevail through all types of major crises and shocking events.
